Church of Ireland Records

The archives of the Church of Ireland hold parochial registers of baptisms, marriages, and burials. These records are held at the Representative Church Body Library (RCB). Although many registers were destroyed in the 1922 fire at the Public Record Office of Ireland, many records survived and are available for researchers. The Church of Ireland has created a comprehensive guide to its parish registers. The color coded guide is available to download as a PDF here.

The PDF guide details what records are available. While a significant amount of Church of Ireland records are stored at the RCB Library, some remain in parish custody. The guide makes clear what is retained locally, and research in these cases should make contact directly with the local parish clergy to make the appropriate arrangements regarding access and payment of fees.

The RCB Library does not have staff resources to conduct detailed genealogical research. Genealogists are encouraged to conduct research in person, or to hire a professional genealogist.
